Product Range: Meltwater by Corofin

Meltwater is the name given to the organic, aromatic whites made by Corofin Artisan Winemakers of Marlborough. The wines are named for the glacial meltwaters of the last ice age, which flowed from the high country of Marlborough, depositing sedimentary rock material as they criss-crossed the valleys below.

Vineyard

In January, ripeness across all varieties was tracking well ahead of average with solid yields across the region. February saw a change to easterly weather patterns and with this intermittent rain, which continued through the key harvest period from early-March to mid-April. A very challenging harvest with advanced ripeness promoting disease susceptibility, required a meticulous approach in the vineyard and winery to maintain quality. A year where balanced yields and intuitive farming came to the fore.

Mike Paterson

Viticulture

Sauvignon Blanc sourced from an organic vineyard in Marlborough's Southern Valleys.

Vinification

Ripe and naturally balanced with flavours tending towards the citrus spectrum. The grapes were gently pressed and the juice allowed to ferment to dryness with indigenous yeast, in small stainless steel tanks. The wine remained on lees through winter and spring, when it was then racked and allowed to settle in tank, with a light filtration prior to bottling February 2023.
